The Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research (BISR) will sign the memorandum of cooperation today with its Uzbek colleagues – the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISRS). Oleg Makarov, Director of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research, spoke about this before the start of the round table dedicated to the development of the Belarusian-Uzbek expert cooperation.
According to the Director of the BISR, this meeting and the very fact of cooperation with the Uzbek colleagues is significant for the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research.
"The memorandum of cooperation between the BISR and ISRS will be signed today. Our cooperation is mutually beneficial, and we are interested in more than 20 years of experience of the leading think tank of Uzbekistan. In addition, we are interested in understanding how Central Asian countries assess their prospects and economies. We see that today, both economic and political vectors are shifting towards Asia. We see how actively the Republic of Uzbekistan develops, how actively it establishes and develops contacts. And we are interested to know the sources of this energy".
At the same time, Oleg Makarov noted that Belarus is also interesting for Uzbekistan.
"Since we are a European state, we understand what European thinking and European economy are. In addition, we are part of a number of regional integration unions, which are also of interest to Uzbekistan, both in terms of economic cooperation and in terms of understanding the political processes. Therefore, our expert cooperation, despite the remoteness of Uzbekistan, is interesting and mutually beneficial".
