Traditionally, the Belarusian society retains the special role of women in raising children, keeping family traditions and values. At the same time, there are inevitable processes of transformation of social functions. The development of civil institutions and social movements has shifted the balance of gender rights and opportunities, ensuring a wider representation of women in the political life of the country, in solving important managerial tasks. Women realise large business projects, actively participate in the public life of the country and even in implementing the Belarusian space program.
Only from 2018 to 2022, the share of women entrepreneurs increased from 31.5% to 36.4 %, the share of women among heads of higher education increased from 9.8% to 14%.
By 2021, 53.7% of senior civil servants were women, compared to 48% in 2017. Their participation in the work of the supreme representative legislative body of the Republic of Belarus has become more noticeable: the share of seats held by women in the National Assembly increased from 29.3% in 2013 to 35.3% in 2022. At the same time, the share of women among deputies of the House of Representatives made 41.1% by 2022 (26.6% in 2013).
This year's election campaign confirmed the emerging trends: 37 women became deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the eighth convocation, which is 33.6% of the total composition.
