On March 26, at a meeting of the Expert Advisory Council under the CSTO PA Council in St. Petersburg, a draft Recommendations on building common approaches of the CSTO Member States to developing measures to counter external destructive attempts to revise and distort historical events and the results of the Great Patriotic War and World War II was presented.
The Recommendations are based on the results of a comprehensive scientific analysis of established national practices, concepts, approaches in assessing and interpreting the events of the Great Patriotic War and World War II, the current legislation of the CSTO countries, as well as acts of international law.
Chief Advisor of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research Igor Valakhanovich presented the draft and shared the details of the process of working on the text of the Recommendations.
"The surge of narratives observed in the world, revising the heritage of the Victory of the peoples of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany, creates dangerous turbulence, forcing us to clearly and unambiguously document and, if necessary, protect the historical truth that was accepted by Soviet people subconsciously, and today is subjected to unjustified revision by external actors seeking to rewrite history in their own political interests," the Recommendations say.
The meeting participants noted the acute relevance and importance of such a document in the modern world, where history becomes the subject of political manipulation.
It is expected that after discussing and approving the Recommendations, the CSTO Member States will actively work on their implementation in order to keep the historical truth alive.
Chairman of the Expert Advisory Council under the CSTO PA Council Anatoly Vyborny also proposed to consider the draft Recommendations at a meeting of the CSTO PA Standing Committee on Political Issues and International Cooperation.
