The Ukrainian tragedy has yet to be "digested", to understand the reasons for its self-destructive nationalism – well-known expert Olga Lazorkina analyzes the historical blunder of Ukraine.
When the search for an external enemy is chosen as an idea for the consolidation of a nation, over time this passes into genetic memory, which transmits this image from generation to generation. A good example is Ukraine and Poland, where the entire foreign policy strategy is built on the image of an external enemy, Olga Lazorkina, a well–known expert, analyst of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research, Candidate of Historical Sciences, noted in an interview on Sputnik Belarus radio.
"This idea is literally seethes there; a trigger appears – and it is revived with renewed vigor. For Ukraine, this is historically connected with the Zaporozhian Sich, a phenomenon unique in its own way, with its desire for independence, for disobedience to the central government, this is clearly visible through the centuries," the expert says.
According to Sputnik's interlocutor, the tragedy of Ukraine has yet to be "digested", to understand why it happened at such a deep level and to help this society get positive. To take into account how the information policy of the post-Soviet period contributed to the transition of national ideas into such a destructive form, and to assess the degree of interference by external forces.
"But the idea of searching for an external enemy has never been instilled in Belarus, for this we were often accused of weakness by Polish researchers, although in fact this has become our strong point. Besides, we made the right strategic choice," Lazorkina said.
