While Russia is into a special operation in Ukraine, NATO will try to incorporate not only Finland and Sweden in its ranks, BISR analyst Andrei Chernobay says.
Will the CSTO expand in the future in response to NATO's expansion, – the issue was analyzed by the guest of Sputnik Belarus radio Andrei Chernobay, Military Analyst at the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research.
"I don't think the CSTO will expand by accepting new members, at least in the near future. There is a transformation of certain things, we see that new challenges and new threats are emerging. For example, at the time of the Organization's inception, the issues of information security were not as relevant as they are now, the Internet was just taking its first steps. The issue of drug trafficking was not so relevant, but ecology has been given importance, and there are many such issues. But the main thing remains preventing military threat to the CSTO member states", Sputnik interlocutor said.
According to the guest, not only Finland and Sweden can join the NATO alliance, its politicians and military have recently begun to reel in other countries.
"We see how the issue of Kosovo's accession to NATO has intensified, public opinion in Austria and Switzerland is being forced, talks about inviting Georgia to the alliance are resuming", the expert noted.
