Yury Yarmolinsky, analyst of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR) and Head of the Centre for SCO and BRICS Studies, took part on 4 December in the Belarusian Legal Forum “Law in the Modern World” at the invitation of the Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers.
Within the thematic section “Legal Cooperation of the Republic of Belarus within the SCO and BRICS”, Yury Yarmolinsky delivered a presentation entitled: “BISR Expert Diplomacy as a Tool for Studying the Foundations of the Legal Systems of SCO and BRICS Countries”.
The emphasis was placed on the fact that, in the context of expanding multifaceted ties within these associations, particularly in the fields of economy and trade, the development of legal cooperation and the understanding of the operational specifics of their member states’ jurisdictions become a necessity, as the effective protection of the lawful rights and interests of domestic economic actors is at stake. Through the prism of existing mechanisms (tools), the fundamental documents of the SCO and BRICS were analysed.
The possibility was outlined for the national legal community to use BISR participation in the SCO Forum, the BRICS Council of Expert Centres (in the long term), and the SCO Consortium of Economic Analytical Centres in order to address the tasks related to studying the legal systems of member states.
The BISR analyst proposed that the Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers act as the initiator of establishing a Consortium of Legal Associations (Unions) of SCO Member States – an international communication platform intended to ensure systematic legal support for trade, economic and investment cooperation with member states.
