Along with the development of the political system, the degree of external interference in the organization and conduct of electoral campaigns is increasing. In order to neutralize, among other things, such threats, the delegates of the National Security Council endorsed an updated Concept of National Security. This opinion was expressed by Anatoly Boyashov, chief advisor of the Foreign Policy Department of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research.
"Scientific research shows that along with the development of the political system, the degree of external interference in the organization and conduct of elections is increasing. With the granting of constitutional status to the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, the relevance of protecting the new body from external pressure increases many times," the BISR analyst believes. "In order to effectively counter foreign interference in electoral processes, the term "electoral sovereignty" has been introduced into the new Concept of National Security.
Anatoly Boyashov emphasizes: the document provides a conceptual description of the electoral security system, taking into account threats and sources of security threats in the political sphere related to elections and referendums.
"The innovation was taking into account the threat of a sharp decrease in citizens' confidence in state bodies and, as a result, the formation of an integrated electoral security system," the expert said.
