“Now we need crisis managers”: Avdonin talks about the new government

Under the current circumstances, the most demanded people will be those who clearly understand the market and know how to negotiate with partners at various spaces and attract resources, - says economic expert Alexei Avdonin.

Let us recall that on Wednesday, Alexander Lukashenko considered candidates for the new Government. Before the meeting, the Head of the Administration Igor Sergeyenko, the Speaker of the Council of the Republic Natalia Kochanova, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko, and the State Secretary of the Security Council Andrei Ravkov held consultations, studied the current government line-up, new candidates and made their proposals. The new Cabinet of Ministers will have to face the challenges of overcoming the difficult economic situation, reminded the expert of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies Alexei Avdonin.

"The main requirement for the new public administrators should be the same as for the good anti-crisis managers: to be capable of making the right decisions in any conditions, to be insightful, to see the main trends and to make decisions that would contribute to the transition of our economy and to the balance of socio-economic priorities that were set before," Avdonin said.

According to him, the Government is now required to take measures to improve the efficiency of the entire top-down command structure and enterprises to increase Belarus's GDP. The old-school management, who had been in place before, will no longer be effective, a different approach to management is needed.

"It is not the national economies or companies that will be winning, but the management. If management is adequate and acts promptly, we will have a fairly effective economy throughout this year," the expert concluded.
