We remember

On May 5, on the eve of Victory Day, analysts of the Mogilev branch of the BISR took part in a solemn rally and laying flowers at the bust of Hero of the Soviet Union Aslan Farhad oglu Vezirov.

In 1944, Vezirov commanded the 1st Guards Mogilev Red Banner Order of Kutuzov assault engineering and sapper brigade of the 70th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front, which crossed the Dnieper River near Mogilev. During the war, Aslan Farhad oglu was distinguished by fantastic bravery and courage. He was twice concussed, but did not leave the battlefield. In 1986, Aslan Farhad oglu Vezirov was awarded the title of honorary citizen of the city of Mogilev.

Speaking at the solemn meeting, the head of the BISR department for the Mogilev region Oleg Koropov noted that at the current historical moment, the date of May 9, sacred for our people, acquires a special meaning. The Second World War and the Great Patriotic War are the largest wars in terms of scale and severity. They became a tragedy for citizens of many countries of the world, brought unprecedented human losses in history, countless suffering to millions of people. The Soviet Union suffered the greatest human losses — 26.6 million people. Germany and its European allies lost, according to various estimates, from 8 to 13 million people. At least 6 million Polish citizens, 6 million Jews, 2 million Japanese, 1.7 million inhabitants of Yugoslavia were killed.

Despite this, in recent years, falsifications of the outcomes of the Second World War has been the case in a number of European countries. They are trying to erase the tragedy of its peoples from the memory of the European inhabitants. That is why it is especially important today to defend the truth about the events of the war years, to cherish the memory of the feat of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers to prevent a tragedy in the future.
