Adapting priority directions of regional policy to new conditions

On October 18, 2022, BISR held an expert seminar on the main areas of the state policy of regional development in the Republic of Belarus.

The event was attended by representatives of the regional and district executive committees on Economics, the Ministry of Economy, the National Academy of Sciences, BISR analysts. The experts discussed a number of relevant issues related to the interaction of authorities at various levels, definition of tools and mechanisms for regional development, formation of a possible model of regional development taking into account the specialization of administrative units.

The seminar participants came to a common understanding of the need to adapt priority areas of regional policy to new conditions.

"Sanctions policy, post-pandemic processes, special military operation on the border, migration crisis, etc., together create conditions that significantly change the environment in which we will have to implement regional development", BISR director Oleg Makarov said.

Experts and analysts expressed their opinions and suggestions concerning the issues of increasing the investment attractiveness of the regions, the development of rural areas, small and medium-sized businesses, interregional cooperation issues and working with personnel in modern conditions.
