On 27 October, BISR hosted an expert discussion with the participation of Kubatbek Kalyevich Rakhimov, the Adviser to the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan. The agenda of the expert discussion included the relevant topic of Eurasian integration.
In her welcoming speech to the participants of the event, BISR Deputy Director Tatiana Shendik noted that in 2020 Belarus will take over the chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). Now the Belarusian side is actively preparing for the forthcoming activities. President of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko has announced the tasks of strengthening the role of the EEC and the EAEU Court.
Special attention is given to information security issues. The participants of the meeting shared their visions of the items on the agenda of the meeting, their general perception of the Eurasian integration processes, as well as the existing problems on the way to further Eurasian building.
One of the tasks to be solved by Belarus is to revive the work of the Scientific and Expert Council under the EEC Collegium Chairman. The participants of the meeting agreed that the activities of this body should be made more systematic and transparent, ensuring non-discriminatory and equal participation of representatives of the expert community from all EAEU countries.
The prospects for further expansion of the EAEU were touched upon separately, taking into account the recently announced intentions of the Republic of Uzbekistan to go this path.
