The future of the Union State, prospects and growth points will be discussed at an expert session of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research within the XIII Forum of Regions

From June 25th to 26th, Minsk and the Minsk region will host the key economic event of this summer — XIII Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. The main topic of the event: “Economic Interaction between Regions is the Basis for Sustainable Development of Belarus and Russia.”

As part of the first day of the forum’s business program, a meeting of the expert session of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research and the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs of the Federal Assembly “The Union State. The Territory of Development”.

The session under the auspices of BISR during the Forum of Regions will be held for the first time and will become a meeting place and dialogue for more than 70 experts from Belarus and Russia. The high level of participants from both countries, representing government authorities, leading think tanks, business, scientific and educational communities, emphasises the strategic importance of the event.

The meeting will be co-chaired by a member of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development Tamara Piatrouna Krasouskaja and the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Lyubov Nikolaevna Glebova.

The session will be moderated by the director of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research, Alieh Siarhejevich Makarau, as well as the director of the Institute of Russian Foreign Community, Sergei Jurijevich Panteleev.

The architecture of the business program of the session is built as a system of interconnected levels, from the role of man in the Union State to the long-term view and potential for joint development in the conditions of the modern turbulent world.

Spiritual and moral values as the basis of demographic well-being and development of the Union State will fall into the focus of speeches by Sergei Vladimirovich Malenko, representative of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for Strategic Partnership and Cooperation, as well as Sviatlana Mikhailovna Aleinikava, Doctor of Political Sciences and BISR analyst. 

The role of the Union State in the integration processes in Eurasia and its place in the formation of a polycentric world order will be considered in the speeches by Aleksandr Vladimirovich Gushchin, Associate Professor of the Department of Post-Soviet Foreign Countries of the Russian State Humanitarian University, as well as the Candidate of Historical Sciences, BISR analyst Volha Iharauna Lazorkina.

The strategic development agendas of the regions of Belarus and Russia intersect in many areas, and their best practices are of mutual interest. In particular, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the “Bank of Development of the Republic of Belarus” OJSC Dzmitry Viktaravich Jarashevich and Head of the Centre for Belarusian Studies of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Maratovich Mezhevich will speak about the points of economic growth and their role in the formation of a space for coordinated economic development. 

The main emphasis of the session — interregional cooperation — will be supported by the speech of Evgeniy Aleksandrovich Grabovsky, member of the board of directors of “Nizhekotrans” LLC, director of “Ecological Projects” LLC, who will share successful examples of industrial cooperation between the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Republic of Belarus in the context of the development of a new generation of electric transport. BISR analysts from the Mahiliow region, in turn, will talk about the interaction between the region and the Russian border area. This cooperation today represents a strong industrial and tourist tandem. 

At the same time, on the sidelines of the event, participants will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the scientific and project activities of the BISR, as well as the exhibition project “Woman is the Soul of the Country”, dedicated to the Year of the Belarusian Woman.
