On December 11 2019, the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research held an expert workshop titled "Environmental Policy of Belarus: National Goals and Strategic Development Objectives".
The participants analysed the international context of the environmental policy of Belarus. The attention was drawn to the impact of global political trends on the quality of solving environmental problems at the regional and local levels, regulation of competitiveness in the global market through the focus of national economies on environmental standards, development of environmental activism as a product of modern mass culture. In this dimension, cases of politicised remonstrative activity of Belarusians as a result of unresolved local environmental problems were examined.
The event addressed in detail the issues of strategic and legal support of environmental policy in Belarus. An assessment of the national strategy for environmental protection and the current state of legal framework in terms of environmental imperative were made. The problem of ensuring environmental safety in the context of integration processes with our country's participation has been especially emphasised.
Among the priorities of the state environmental policy, BISR analysts and invited experts have defined those oriented towards using the potential of the Belarusian information space to promote environmental initiatives. First of all, it is media support of ecological programmes and projects implemented in our country, promotion of the state ecological policy through media resources, shaping of the country's ecological image in the external information environment.
