On September 15, BISR analyst Yuri Yarmolinsky, at the invitation of the leadership of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), took part in a virtual discussion on the results of the 43rd ASEAN Summit (Jakarta, 5-7 September 2023).
The invited guests at the event were Director General for ASEAN Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Sidharto R. Suryodipuro, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Political Security Robert Matheus Michael Tene, Deputy Executive Director for Research at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies Indonesia Dr. Safia F. Muhibat, and more than a hundred representatives of the expert and academic community from Brunei, Great Britain, Vietnam, India, Canada, Cameroon, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, USA, Croatia, Philippines, Japan and other countries.
The webinar participants discussed in the interactive format the main results of Indonesia's chairmanship in ASEAN, including the summits held. Particular emphasis was placed on the achievements under the ASEAN CONCORD IV, the results of the ASEAN review of the Indo-Pacific Forum, as well as pressing strategic issues, including the political crisis in Myanmar and protracted negotiations related to the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea.
