On September 25, 2023, BISR analysts took part online in an expert discussion on the issues of ensuring food security in modern geopolitical conditions. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Egyptian Council on International Affairs.
In the course of the seminar there was a constructive exchange of views on key factors which in the current geopolitical conditions affect the resilience of the global food security system. The participants, including experts from international organizations, confirmed the negative impact on global food security of sanctions on the export of Belarusian fertilizers, as well as restrictions on access of Belarusian food and agricultural machinery to world markets.
Special attention was paid to highlighting the destabilizing effect of unilateral measures of economic pressure on food supplies on stability in the States of the African continent. Emphasis was placed on the need for collective efforts to ensure food security in developing countries and regions of the Global South.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue cooperation with Egyptian experts on issues of mutual interest.
