International ICT security in UN

The Belarusian Institute of Strategic Studies, as part of the official delegation of the Republic of Belarus, is taking part in the UN final session on the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) draft final report on developments in the field of information and telecommunications in the context of international security. The event takes place on March 8-12 as remote participation and meetings at the UN Headquarters in New York, and is a platform for summarising outcomes of OEWG and member states' two-year hard work addressing the protection of all countries' interests in the digital field regardless of their level of technological development.

The text of the final report prepared by the Swiss Chair of the OEWG, incorporated the main elements that were in focus at previous meetings. Issues addressed in the report were the priorities that had been emphasised by the Belarusian side – the "digital sovereignty" principles, the significant role of regional partnerships that correlate with the Belarusian initiative on establishing the "digital neighborhood" belt, and setting out provision to reject ICT militarization.

The event has a dense discussion nature and involves an active exchange of views between the delegations. The document, with possible amendments, is expected to be adopted by consensus.
